For over a decade, I've worked as a freelance audio generalist for indie games - primarily as a composer, but also as a sound designer and dialogue editor. I've contributed to projects across a wide variety of genres, scopes, and budgets. Whether you are a single-person developer, a small team, or a larger studio, I bring the same level of collaboration, initiative, and professional care to every project. I also have a particular love for the piano, where I've composed many melancholy pieces, some of which have been broadcast on the BBC. I've also written about my experiences in Bits & Pieces: Practical Insights from an Indie Game Composer, a book that explores the lessons I've learned working in this space.

“Matt’s proven to be a very skilled and imaginative composer. He’s an absolute pleasure to work with and I hope to have a project worthy of his skills again in the future. Matt delivered an excellent, varied and cohesive soundtrack that breathes a beautiful life into Cloudbase Prime’s strange journey. Matt’s professional, friendly and very responsive to feedback. He deftly handled the various technical requirements of the projects we worked on together.”
- Tyrus Peace (Floating Island Games)
“I contacted Matt to provide some music tracks for a game that we are publishing. Wanting to give the game the best quality possible I felt that a fresh set of tracks would really help with its reception. With the agreement of the developer, I introduced them to Matt who very quickly and accurately assessed the kind of musical structure required by the developer for the title, and had produced a sample tune of excellent quality allowing the developer to fully understand his ideas.
With everything clearly defined, Matt then produced a set of tracks as per the spec very quickly and with very high standards to the point where the developer was spending more time listening to the music than working on the game itself. Working with Matt was a pleasant and enjoyable experience, everything was up front and neither myself or the developer were left with any doubts at any point in the process. The cost of his services was very reasonable and I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending him or working with him on future projects.“
- Graeme Hinchliffe (subSilico)
“Matt has been great to work with on the development of OAOA. He has patiently handled a developer (me) who had absolutely no clue on the audio direction for the game. He has managed to coax requirements and build an amazing soundtrack that has received praise from other devs, on social media and at expos. I'd highly recommend Matt to any other devs looking for someone to collaborate with on their projects.”
- Tim Keenan (Ginger Biscuit Games)
“I had the pleasure of working with Matt on one of the most challenging formats out there – idents. To work, the brief required Matt to create 5 different compositions that transition from mysterious to a familiar jingle in less than 10 seconds. Armed with endless patience Matt accommodated every single request, only to deliver amazing scores that worked beautifully with the ads themselves. Having him on our team was an absolute pleasure and I would highly recommend working with him to anyone"
