I often describe myself as a walking identity crisis. After years in technical finance roles, alongside creative stints in indie video games, I never felt entirely at home in either.
I spent 15 years at J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. in the Corporate & Investment Bank, working across risk, controls, and governance - from accounting and regulatory reporting, to leading internal audits. Later, I transitioned into data analytics where I designed and managed analytical and AI/ML solutions (and training) to a global department of 1,300+ auditors. In parallel, I spent over a decade as a freelance composer and sound designer for indie games. I co-founded Propulsion Games with my brother, collaborating with friends and family to release several commercial indie titles focused on transmedia elements and teamwork mechanics. My roles spanned production, narrative, and audio. We also created Brainyhawk, a range of (free!) pun-riddled literary logic puzzles.
After a period of stepping away from finance to spend time as a stay-at-home dad, explore creative projects, and write, I combined these interests and experiences by embarking on a PhD in Human-Centred AI at the University of Southampton Web Science Institute. I am researching governance mechanisms that will enable the UK creative industries to thrive, given the nascent risks and opportunities emerging from AI.
I'm always interested in connecting with others who are similarly exploring the inflexion point of technology and creativity. If you'd like to connect (please do!), the best way to reach me is via email or LinkedIn.
